What exactly does your local Euro MP know about sex toys I hear you ask? Well in truth, enough to know that the Sun newspaper’s latest claim regarding the European Parliament is utterly groundless.
The Sun claimed that due to the European directive on waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) owners of sex toys would be forced to hand in old versions before they could buy new ones. This, like many of the Sun’s stories on Europe, was just another Euro myth. The WEEE directive does not force anybody to recycle any particular device, what it does mean is that national governments have to act to ensure recycling facilities are available and are used. The UK will be set a target that is likely to be around 12 kilos of white goods being recycled per household. This is a target that we should be able to meet with ease.
Sex toy owners can relax as there is no way any one in any shop that sells these products can know whether you have an old device or not. This directive will give us all a cleaner and safer environment, but it isn’t going to force anyone to reveal his or her little secrets!!
