PARLIAMENT VOTES ON THE WORKING TIME DIRECTIVE    (Employment Law)
By a massive majority the European Parliament voted at its February plenary session to urge the Commission to reform the Working Time Directive.

Labour MEPs successfully voted to remove references to infringement actions against the UK (which might have ended in court action) and to remove any specific references to dates by which the UK opt-out should be removed. Labour MEPs did, though, vote to call on the Commission to suggest a revised directive “with a view to the phasing out” of the British general opt-out.

The vote in the parliament has no legislative effect – the European Commission is currently examining the possibility of a revision of the Directive and this was the parliament stating its views at an early stage in that process.
